    Default More Nth Silky oak

With offcuts galore floating round, a bit of glue, some fine sanding and a bit more accurate drilling, I came up with this box, probably will be a pen box, I haven't made up my mind yet.

the box was constructed using finger joint jig on the router.

the lid is 3 pieces edge glued

    hinges are 2mm brass rod

finished with 4 coats of Kunos Livos oil - clear. I thought, while I had it out finishing the starburst, I'd do this one also. And looks like it'll be the finish I will use on the Silver Ash/Wenge box under construction.

That first photo makes the lid look like 3D grain pattern. Your pumping things out at the moment.

These are all parts of the cot i was given and some is perfectly quarter sawn, and some not. De to the nature of the timber, the finish adds a serious amount of depth, ad by combining several pieces together, really does a number on the eyes. Im loving this stuff.

I cant sit still, if i'm not working nights, I'm picking the kids up and running around to soccer/futsal/gymnastics, treating the wife by picking her up instead of making her bus it home, and when not doing that i'm in my garage. I would rather be in there for 10minutes tinkering than sitting down for 10mins watching TV.

What would you like to know, I'll pop up a pic and you can get the idea of how it works. It as made by a very talented and VERY accurate former dentist (say no more)

The series of photos below, shows first box wall being done then lining up the end wall, the next one cutting the end in place, then the last, carrying on with end wall. sorry they shuffled whilst posting
    the order of pics goes pic 3 - pic 4 - pic 1 - pic 2

I'm with you there. Can't wait for daylight savings where the evenings are warmer and light till 9:00pm. Evening meal times go out the window during this time.

I'm a fan of using brass rod (brazing rod) for hinges, keeps the cost down.

Especially good if you sleeve it in matching brass tube.

Thank you, and there's a tonne more where that came from. I'm turning a pen for this box but have run out of accelerator for a CA finish, so am testing the Glen20 method but am struggling a bit.

Forget the Glen 20 and just wait a bit longer for it to go off. Just have something else on the go that you can do between coats.
