Thread: those pesky mitre joints

I took these photos at a workshop I attended run by Andrew Crawford, boxmaker. His sander was a T of MDF, guided by an MDF runner. It was used for not just mitres, but also veneer.

We're really whittling it down to essentials, aren't we
Occam's Razor mitre joints.
Incidentally, Derek, I went to your site and took an interest in your review of the Krenov plane.
I did a Krenov workshop in Auckland back in the 80s when he came over here that one time. Walked away with a couple of hand-made planes.
They are great. I made them out of some blocks of Tassie blackwood that I had lying around.
Krenov the person I was less than impressed with. His manner was very guru-like, we were all just redshirts and spear carriers to him.
Oh well, c'est la vie. (insert reference to Fritz Perls and the Gestalt Prayer)

That will do fine PWH. I use spray adhesive though. even the thin double sided tape creates a slight distortion, just like those pesky bar code stickers on the back of wet and dry. I even see YouTube boffins using them without taking the sticker off. In my early days i learned the need for taking EVERY precaution possible. the tape'sticker might only be a couple of thou, but that's enough to add one more unwanted factor. Good luck. Hope you win lotto and can buy all the swanky gear you want

If you're not using a purpose built mitre saw/guillotine it is always going to take a bit of mucking around to get it right. If you are not doing a lot of them why not go to a framer and he could cut them for you. I suppose that takes away the pleasure of doing your self, carry on.
