Default NEW Project - Medal box for an old salt - WIP

With a lump of roadside rescued Lily Pily (complete with algae bloom staining, very effective blues and bronzes flowing) I had done a finger joint test, then thought what can I do with this box, following the salvage of a piece of old WRC 1" thick t&g board They look fantastic together, and with another strip of Silver ash inlay i could really be on a winner. I thought about a friend of ours, retired Navy, and thought I'd make him a medal box. is Wife however informed me that his son bought him one, but is too small to fit his arrangement in. Anyway to cut a long story sort, the box i was making would've been the same. So a quick rummage through he shelves and I have selected what I think is figure brush box (happy to be told i'm wrong in this instance so that i can atleast tell him the correct timber (Pics to follow). I also have left over from another project a book matched piece of Southern Silky oak for the top.

I will document this build from start to finish for all you avid followers, and hopefully i'll be able to put an Aussie tru-oil finish o which will make Homey proud.

on a side note does anyone know, where I can get Decals made? (outside of printing your own) I want to put decals (of Ships crests) on some acrylic, cut them out and inset them on the inside of the lid.

Stay tuned, I hope to post some pics a bit later this morning before I have a much earned relaxing night away with 'the Doris' (wife, Not really her name), and no rug rats...... yippee, "Room Service!!"

Is that Brush Box? Looks a lot like Red Gum? Whatever - nice combination.

    Quite a bit of progress today. Size is 350 x 240 x 105.

so I sliced down to size, cut the lengths, then routered the ends for a rebate corners. I then clamped and trimmed the lid, then rebates the lid to seat snugly inside, and then rebated the base.
