Default Question - re: Sanding the inside

As this is my first box since my camera filter box (changed from the original cassette box design) at high school. When does everybody sand the inside of their box? Does everyone sand what will become the inside before they glue up? Or after they glue the 4sides and before they insert the top and rebated base?

im thinking before as it's easier to lay flat. Please tell me I'm not wrong. Or does everybody have perfect surfaces and as such the inside shouldn't need sanding? It's just mybsilky oak is rather textured after the thicknesser!

    Sand before you assemble.

    Hi,

I sand before and in fact, I also finish the inside of the panels before.

    Regards,

    Rob

Every part should be as finished as possible before assembly; not just for boxes, but for everything you make.

Sand and finish the inside before assembly. Not so important for the outside though, as this can wait until completion.

depending on the joints -- e.g. dovetails -- you might want to consider finish sanding before you cut the joinery.

Sand and finish the inside before assembly. I like to mitre the corners (its just what I reckon "looks" right) If you are going to pad the base with some kind of fluffy material I rebate the bottom so you can do all the messy painting /oiling then put the bottom in.
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

I sand to 240 grit straight after thicknesing and then 600 grit after each side has been cut to length.

Sand the inside then tape. Makes it easier to prevent glue stains and clean up is a breeze

Thanks, I forgot that bit, I did manage to wipe excess off with damp rag and stick some sandpaper, 180 and 240 to some flat sticks I had lying around to sand off the remainder.

i will use the tape on the inside when I put the lid inlay as can't wipe off excess from a sealed box, until I cut it open. Hopefully it won't get caught in the bandsaw when I cut the lid off.

    all in the learning curve.

i'd be lost without this forum, but then again it is interesting to see everyone's different opinion on the Tepa etc. I guess take it all in, find which way works best for me and learn from my mistakes. thanks guys
