    Yes a 9V transformer, 600mA. No need to solder, there's a place to plug in the connector on mine. I assumed they were all the same.

    No idea why it works and a battery doesn't but I assume the transformer delivers more of 'something' than the battery.

    Always nice to make a box with a story. I always put in an info sheet with the types and history of the timber if known, plus care instructions.

    It would appear that the picture of the completed box are stored on some server (https://ibb.co/fqxQmd) not the servier used by this forum. If that external server is ever shut down, future users would not be able to see the pics of this great box. Hope this helps
