    Default Redgum Box.

Well, i thought i would have a go at this boxmaking caper. After completing several projects so far, from dining tables and bedsides to buffet's, i thought making something small would be a breeze. How wrong i was.
I have a newfound respect for the quality of boxes shown on this forum. Never did i think it would be as chellenging as it turned out to be. Get a mitre slightly wrong and it stick's out like the preverbial, get anything out of whack and it will ruin your project.
This first effort is very basic, no mitre splines or inlays, just plain and simple. It's finished with Wipe-on then rubbed with EEE and Trad Wax.
I made this and another identical box from redgum as christmas presents for my two nieces.

Thanks for looking at my humble efforts.

First time ? Looks like you've been making boxes for along time to me.
Very nice, the colour and the grain of the red gum is very attractive.

Elegant. How many coats of wipe on Poly before the EE and wax? The finish looks first class.

Thanks all for the kind comments.

I applied 6 coats of wipe-on. The redgum soaked up the first 2 coats, on the 4th coat i rubbed back with 400 wet and dry (used dry) to smooth out the bumps. I then applied the 5th coat, then rubbed lightly with 800 wet and dry (dry again). After the final coat i rubbed with 1200 wet and dry (this time used wet), then i used EEE and trad wax.

I know this may be an unusual approach but it gave quite a good finish in the end.

    Thanks again,

    Steven.
