Rosewood and Silky Oak
This is a box I made with some of the rosewood I got from another forumite, Deni.
I gave it as a birthday present to a friend.
Finished with Rustins Wood Oil then wax.
Hinges based on Gifkins wooden hinges.
Cant say I'm 100% in love with the design but I wanted to try something a bit different.
Cheers,
Dan

Beautiful box and excellent craftsmanship. The wood hinges are pretty novel (at least to me). They look delicate. Sometimes we get tired of the same old, same old, so its good to try something different.
p.s., how did you join the corners?

Mate that is definitely worth a mention in dispatches!!
Nice execution and attention to detail -eg. the rounded corner post tops to allow for the hinged lid.

Great work. I love the detail in those hinges. Must've taken a while.
Does the front of the box actually curve outwards or is it just the grain curve that makes it look like that?
Cheers,

That's a wonderful box with an innovative design. Your choice of timbers compliment each other nicely and the workmanship is superb. All in all - a handsome box.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Thanks for the kind comments.
The corner posts have long skinny mortises and the sides have long skinny tenons to join up.
The front doesn't curve. It is straight. I think the front is about 430mm long.
The hinges are actually pretty quick and easy, as long as you can drill accurately. It is just a flattened out box joint with a vertical hole drilled through the fingers.
The rounded tops of the corner posts were a late addition after I figured out the lid wasn't going to open without them.
Cheers,
Dan
