a simple jewelry box, but with marquetry
I used the simple design of the jewelry box, just a clear square outlook with some marquetry on the top. This is my first time using poplar and I found it working very well, actually probably better than hard maple. the finish is gel-polyurethane, polished by 1500 grit sand paper, and then coated with wax. I made the tray using red oak with no coating (I wonder if any oil, lacquer or wax will be harmful for the jewelry) and left the tray bottom just what it looks like, because my wife doesn't like any velvet.
material: poplar, cedar (bottom and top), red oak (tray), birch plywood (bottom of the tray) and veneers.
size: 8"x6"x3"

Very nice box. Love the quilted maple veneer.
