I've used them on a small box, and they're reasonable value - not the same standard as the real SmartHinge, and they're narrower - I wouldn't like to use them on a bigger box that the real McCoy would handle easily. Still, they aren't too bad, and are considerably less expensive.

I'll see if I can find a photo of a box I used them on.

I use them all the time. The quality and finish are consistant and i have never had to reject any. While i can tell they are not solid Brass i have never had a customer pick up on the fact and i doubt i would be able to sell boxes if i had to factor in the cost of the real deal.

Thanks all. I have bitten the bullet and ordered some - really can not go wrong at the price. I will let you know how they go.

    Thanks AlexS

They look fine in the photo. What bit do you use - are they exactly 6mm.

    Cheers

    I would have used a 1/4" cutter.

    Hi double.d
I have been told by the supplier that the hinges are 6.09mm. What bit do you use. 1/4inch seems to loose. 6mm seems impossible to buy.

    Hi,

I assume those of you who use these hinges have some sort of a template made, to ensure the top and bottom line up all nice and neat,.???

Have a look at this link- it shows how they're installed. The link is for the brass hinges sold by Andrew Crawford in the U.K, but the install steps should be similar.

I use a 6mm CMT orange bit from Carbatec and the hinges fit perfectly.

I used to do the set up from scratch every time but got smart and made a template from some Melamine particleboard. I mainly use 11mm stock for boxes so i set the template for the centre and don't change it for thicker or thinner stock. I set it up with the bit idle and then make minor adjustments if required once the bit is spinning.

If you intend to fully house the hinge you will need to put a 6mm chamfer on the bottom edge of the lid and the top edge of the box otherwise lid no open.

Thanks double.d I assume that is just a straight bit and not a down cut spiral bit as suggested on the smart hinge site.

    Cheers
