    Default Speaker Boxes - WIP

A long time since my last post so I thought I'd post my current project and hopefully get some encouragement to get me over the hump and finish it... it's been 6 months in the shed.

It's a pair of speaker boxes for hifi system which I'm building bit by bit - I dabble in electronics as well, and the idea of combining my interest in both woodwork and electronics to make beautiful, useful items is very appealing to me.

    Enough babble. Some photos.

I'll post more photos when I make more progress...

Be very careful you dont use tonewood. If the wood resonates its no good. Best is chipboard laminated. You also have to balance the intake of air to the back of the speaker. A round hole in the front with a toilet roll cardboard tube is about correct. But it depends how good your ear is, most people are unable to hear the difference between an engineered speaker and some Chinese mockup.

Good advice rrbor. The timber is tassie oak, and the dimensioning of the box was designed to match the speaker parameters, so it should sound fine. I have a "proper" port for the rear which I hope to cut in this week.

The veneers are quite nice but I did get somewhat down on the project when I realised that I didn't properly colour match the veneers with the stain for the tassie oak. I suspect it will look odd. Oh well. It's just all fun and learning isn't it?

Hopefully more photos later in the week.
