Stationary Box.
After being inspired by Superbunny's effort of this box from Australian Woodsmith, i thought i would give it a go too.
I made this as a gift to a friend who has been a carer to my son for the last 3 years. Like a lot of couples these days, both my wife and i work which means my son has to attend child care every day. He finishes up at the end of this year to start school in 2013. This one person has been there from his very first day so deserves something a little special.
It's made from offcuts of Khaya from my sideboard. The splines and lid border are made from jarrah with the lid insert a piece of bookmatched Khaya crotch wood. It's finished with lots of coats of Wipe-on-Poly.
It's originally made as a keepsake box but thought i would make a stationary box instead. I will fill it with matching envelopes and writing paper at a later stage. If she wants to use it as something else the pen holder can be removed.
Now all i need is a matching pen.
Sorry about the size of the pics.
Hope you like it.
Steven.

That's fantastic! Love that natural edge pen holder.
Come to think of it Superbunny never did show us the finished job. I made a document inspired by that design and posted it a few moths ago.

That is exceptional. I love the way you have designed the pen holder. It is always good to open a box and then see more.....the pen holder does that.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Absolutely awesome job - well done indeed
You obviously have the wipe-on poly finish sorted; judging by the depth of finish I'm guessing LOTS of coats !

Sorry for the pics. My photobucket has been playing up a bit and the photo's are all different sizes. Don't know why.
