If it does not have to be an Australian timber . Burmese Teak is easy to work has a nice grain and is all importantly brown. How big are the pieces you need?

Hi Dengy, I can help you out with timber that size but it will have joints along its length. The pieces vary in width from 90 to 100mm wide. They are cut with a "Z type profile to align the pieces and to increase surface area(see carbitool jointing bit TGC 100 1/2). They were pieces left over after a demolition of benches with teak tops.I will dig some out and post some pics.

Hi Dengy, I’ve got dry Burdekin plum 150mm wide by anything from 22/28mm thick dressed (from memory) if your still after timber.

    Hi Dengy,
That is a nice timber but you have to be careful not to over fill the grain. Blackbean always looks better with a bit of texture remaining. If you change your mind let me know. All the best.

QLD Walnut. Chocolate brown with black streaks running through it. Dunno if it's readily available these days though.

I am quite partial to New Guinea Rosewood - a pleasant darkish tan colour that is easy to work with.

In the relatively easy to acquire stakes, Blackwood (even ordinary BW) has beautiful chatoyance, but if it has Fiddleback it can be quite superb.

Hi Cornards, Yes there are pieces of NG rosewood that are a brownish colour but are few and far between. A lot more, the majority, is very bland timber with pinkish hues in some areas. I have just finished a chair base for a rocker recliner to raise its height and even with a light rub on stain to give it some colour it has finished to a golden colour not brown or even tan. All the best.

    Hi Powerball3,
Pics are of chair base made from NG rosewood with a stain to match the bentwood arms and a clear satin finish. The base is just the original base with 115mm of added height and 250mm of added length at the back. The second pic is, from the back of the chair to the front. a piece of exceptionally dark Tas blackwood, a piece of black bean, a piece of Black American walnut then a brownish piece of NG rosewood and then the more typical bland NG rosewood.
I hope this is what you were after.
    All the best.
    Labrat
