    Default Tambour Box

I thought I would have a go at one of these the timber is Northern Silky oak and New Guinea rosewood draw and tambour work together as you open the draw the shutter also opens. I made a set of templates to route the ends for shape and the track for the shutter. (apologies for photo's)

Looks good Rod. Is there much friction from the tambour? I'm wondering if you need to hold the box in place while opening the drawer.

    Hi Labr@,
There is obviously some friction but minimal and as they say it will ride up with wear you do need to hold the box as you open but only minimal the shutter is still to be lubricated with wax and I am hoping it will become even easier.
    Regards Rod.

I lubricate mine with talc (old slide rule trick). Less likely to pick up dust & grit than wax.

    Cheers AlexS,
I give the talc a go a dry lube is usually a better option.

    Cheers Tahlee,
It has come up well, I used to do a lot of tambour doors back in my kitchen days appliance cabinets and the like so I thought I would give this design a go.
Not a close photo but there is a tambour in each side of this pantry and it's just more boxes really.
    Regards Rod.
