Tea Tree Box?????????
I got this timber from two pieces of a log from Maryborough and was able to resaw to get enough to make this box.
I am informed that this is teatree, it seems to be oily, but not hard and very easily worked. Accepted router cuts very well with zero chipping especially when the dovetails were cut. The dust was a little hard on the hooter though.
Finished with Danish Oil and traditional wax.Check my facebook:rhbtimber

Has turned out great. Like the timber.

Beautiful box
from beautiful timber!!
Tea tre, Ti-tree and Mellaleuca are terms that are often used to describe or name members of the Mellaleuca family.
From what I've experienced the grain is attractive like that in the pics., particularly if cut the right way.

Thank you for your comments.
This is the first box made of a timber unknown to me. I didn't really know what it was, as I had no bark or leaves. I was told it was tea tree, but when milled on the bandsaw, it only had a dank dusty smell, so I was a little puzzled.
However the grain was great and was easy to work. And there is half a trailor load waiting for me to pick up when I next get down the coast. Only small branches 3 inches and less though.

Lovely box, showing off the natural beauty of the wood.

well done specialist,
box looks great, how often we overlook aussie timber, black wattle has a similar grain
& look, it's just a shade darker.how big does tea tree grow up there, most of the tea tree around where I live die's after about 6-9 years old' thus it is only around 20-25cm in dia, got given some "molga" from a mate at brokenhill once, enchanted timber....lifes to short, learn from other peoples mistakes.
