    Default Visit to Andrew Crawford

Earlier this week I had the good fortune to catch up with Andrew Crawford, maker of fine boxes, author of woodworking books, teacher and now, maker of first class hinges, the SmartHinge, and locks. It was one of Andrew's books that got me started in box making. Andrew showed me around his workshop and also, some of the projects he has in the works. Watch this space.
I was impressed by the quality control that goes into these products. Anything with the most minute scratch is rejected.
We also chewed the fat over techniques, course structure and woodwork generally.

I just ordered 2 of Andrew's books. Hopefully one of them is what got you started.

    Alex,

Good that you were able to catch up with Andrew. I was there in May to do some one-to-one work on inlay banding and finishing techniques. This was my second session with him - I did the five-day course last year. In my view a few days with Andrew answered dozens of questions that no books or YouTube videos ever cover.

Treecycle - you will not be disappointed by AC’s books. Although a few of his techniques have moved on since he wrote the earlier book I find myself frequently browsing the methods and picking up extra useful information.

I’m looking forward to the release of the inlay corner jig - and perhaps some more time in Shropshire next year!

I personally would love to go and learn under Andrew but to fly from the US and take one of his classes is just too much money. Too bad he doesn’t do some travel classes in the US.

Oh how good would that be. I'm sure you've picked up some great points and insights. I love the look of some of his hardware, just ashamed it is so expensive once landed here in Oz. You didn't happen to bring two dozen hinges home with you by and chance did you......
