And it's finally done. Recessed the hinges slightly and lined the insides.
The figure in the Walnut is just lovely. It's very dark though so you can't really see the joinery. I promise there is handcut dovetails in there [emoji16].
Hinges from Anton Gerner, Faux Suede lining from Aliexpress.
Hope you enjoy.
Cheers

Looks magnificent. The contract between the light and dark colours really sets it off and the red inside is another good contrast. Glad you were able to sort out the hinge problem.
Is your suede wrapped around some card before being fitted?Dallas

Hi Dallas, thank you for the positive feedback.
The lining is glued onto some cardboard as per the instructions from Andrew Crawford, link below. Click on lining advice.

What’s the finish?

Thanks Brian. After re-applying a few coats of my satin Osmo Polyx oil I couldn't get a nice consistent finish so I sanded it down and applied a few coats of Rust-Oleum 2X Satin Clear. I followed this by buffing it out with some wax and synthetic steel wool. Not my favorite finish but it seemed to work ok.

I've found in this colder weather I had to wait a day for the Osmo (clear, extra thin) to cure/dry/whatever it does between the two coats and then a few days after the 2nd coat, otherwise it looked 'patchy' even after wiping off the excess. The spotted gum was sanded to 240 and now has an even, satin finish.
