walnut jewelry box
Hi,
Here comes another walnut box, it is quite similar to the one I made six months ago, but I tried something new on the marquetry --- combined with wood burning pen technique, see the veins on the leaves.
material: walnut, lacewood, bloodwood, inlay and veneers, and agate. the box was finished with varnish.
see the images below, the box with yellow button is the old one, and the new one has the red eye.

I like both of them very much. I can't decide which I prefer. I thought at first the latest one because of its deeper colour and sharper outlines, but the I wondered how it might look in say a year or two - because it will change with time. I also thought the plain border on the latest one was better. Given all the fine detail in the marquetry the border on the first one added a bit too much to the business. Of course others will have an opposite view. But in any case, both are splendid.

Beautiful. Love them both.

Those are fantastic! Approximately how many hours do you have in them?
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

The marquetry looks great . How long did it take to do the marquetry for this box?
I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan

for all the question about the work time, base on two hours working every day, I worked more than 3 weeks on the first box and 2 and a half on the second. including a little more than one week to finish the marquetry on each box.
