Walnut Octogon box
This is one for you picture junkies. This box was made as a challenge by a fellow woodworker. He started out by telling me he wanted an octogon box with box joints. I made a prototype and then made this one. There were a lot of new things to learn with this box. Some ideas worked and some were dropped due to design issues or looks issues. A lot of the pictures are ideas I was showing him so we could discuss what worked and what didn't. The rest were to show what I was doing. Sort of a wip showing.
After it was finished, I thought it came out nice enough to try and show at a large fair here. It won a 1st place blue ribbon and a special award ribbon for creativity.
The box is made from Walnut. The final top panel is made from Cocabola and the inlay is Bloodwood.
I didn't put descriptions on the photos so if there are any questions, I will answer as best I can.
The pictures can be found at http://www.thedragonslair.com Warning: The first page contains 102 thumbnails so high speed internet access or a lot of patience is needed.

OK...now I'm really interested. I've gotta try this one. Very creative and nice looking. 1st place was well deserved.
