Wedding Boxes
These two boxes are for my sil wedding. They are both made from recycled flooring, some sort of pine Hoop perhaps. Silky oak and Ared Cedar.
Some pics unfinished and some with two coats of white shellac with a number to go.
I must apologise for the pics, they were taken in the half dark, they don't really do the timber justice.

Beautiful! The shellac has really brought out the warmth of the timbers. I can't wait to see the finished pictures.

Hello everyone,
I have finally finished the boxes, have been busy with other things namely a new shed. Anyways the wedding is in two weeks so the pressure was starting to build.
I really like to use shellac but the coloured stuff always makes pine go dark, but this ubeaut hard shellac just made it look wet which is what I wanted. It is a little difficult to apply, I ended up thinning dow 50/50 for the the first coat and then 75/25 for the final coats, about 7 in total. They were applied using a soft brush, being very careful not to overlap the previous stroke always allowing it to dry flat. It took a long time having to allow one side at a time to dry before doing the next.
I ended up sanding as fine as possible and then polished with eee cream.
It was my first time to line with material, It's a lot harder than I thought because the timber is recycled, the underside the lid left lot to be desired, so I stuck a mirror there to cover it up.
The idea is for the small box to inside the large one surrounded by flowers in place of a money tree.
Anyway, everyone that has seen them just drool over them, your thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

These are really lovely, and will be treasured. I fully understand the drooling bit! Fantastic job. I especially like the combination of timbers.

I also like the lid design of the outer box and to compliment you I shall have to do one of those myself.

Well done. The boxes look great.

Thanks for your comments fellas, they are probably the best that I have done to date, there are plans for more in the future maybe for a market day?
Jow, sil stands for sister in law, she's getting married next Saturday.
