    Default White beech jewellery box

My latest creation, a jewellery box out of rare figured white beech. The box measures 250mm x 170mm x 120 deep. The top features a panel of burl veneer with a panel of red cedar on the inside of the lid. A hand crafted motif is centred on the cedar panel Both the top and inside veneer panels are surrounded by specially designed and hand made veneer banding. Inside the box there is two removable trays, lined with felt. Inside, the bottom also is lined with felt
The body of the box features the traditional box, or, finger joint for strength.

Thanks D.D. White beech is normally featureless grained, this however, is has a lot of curly grain and so exposes a lot of end grain, causing it to come up a bit darker than normally. The photo also makes the beech seem a bit dark as well. The true colour is more like a light maple colour.

    Very nice PP.

I had the pleasure of being invited into Jim's shed & seeing part of the build for this box, the assembly of the carcass, cutting the lid frame, veneering the lid panels and filling grain, & machining then cutting the foot moulding, but not the whole assembly. Jim's meticulous attention to detail stands out throughout the entire build process. A joy to watch a gifted craftsman at work.

Beautiful work as always Jim The Beech I have here is almost as dark once finished which surprised me for a 'white' named timber

Thanks Vern, it probably should be called "grey" beech, as you have noted, it is not really white.
