    Default Wife’s new jewellery box

Here’s a box I recently finished for my wife’s birthday. Walnut, red cedar and Wenge .

Very lovely Jan, it should please your wife and inspire other box makers. It would me.

I'm curious. Which is the golden coloured wood used in the larger areas? Is it yellow cedar (tulip satinwood)? Its not the familiar Australian red cedar.
There are the others cedars (eg deodar or Atlas etc) softwoods but it doesn't look like them. The Wenge is very dark (edging?) and walnut a mid to dark purple-brown. Anyway a very beautiful result and choice of woods. Well done

    Default Wife’s new jewellery box

Thanks for the kind words. No it’s red cedar but because there is just that much figure in it it looks golden under certain light. Here is an earlier one I did with the same timber sliced off the same slab.

Beautiful box, what have you done with the mitres?

Cheers. Not sure what you mean. Is it the splines your asking about or that I just cut and glued all the mitres together and then carefully cut them to try to get the same thickness on the edges

Yes, thanks Jan, it's the splines I'm interested in, they look like a composite

It's too big!. It will cost a fortune to fill it up.

    Darn nice though.

It's amazing how quickly they NEED to fill the void with gold and jewels, huh?

I made it smaller than what she needed in the hope she would get rid of some of the stuff she doesn’t use but that didn’t work very well lol
