One of the boxes is almost done. I need to do a few small things such as screw in the brass screws but I'm relatively happy with this one. I've applied three coats of kunos livos oil.

The other two need 2 more coats of oil and the leather lining installed and they will be complete.

Looking good, Andy. The figure in the carcass is really going to jump out when it's oiled. They should look really great when finished.

    Well done Andy

I particularly liked the darker box and the contrasting timbers. Can you please give us a few more details about that one? eg the timbers used, and how you did the inside liner, especially with the tray support getting in the way.

Do you have a link to how AlexS puts the leather in? I would like to try some on a box lid ( inner surface)

Keep up your good work, and many thanks for sharing
    regards,

    Dengy

    Thanks for the comments.

The darker box is jarrah and huon pine. The timber for the lid I can't remember but it has some nice figure.

Dengy- the pic below might answer your question. The jarrah support piece is removable and sits in a groove in the side pieces.

There are a couple of ways to attach the leather. You can use spray adhesive on both sides or the glue method that I got off Alex. The glue method is simply applying glue to both the surfaces (glue and timber) and wait for it to dry. Then just iron on the leather which melts the glue and gives a nice even flat finish.

I use 3mm mdf to attach my leather. I just measure the opening and use my shooting board to sneak up to a perfect fit. Then apply the leather and you're done. You could also make the base with the leather already attached which from memory is what I did for the tray. The lining on the base was an after thought and I used the method described above.
