I'd like to have a go as well. I need a deadline else I don't work too well.... as long as it's not this month!

I agree with any type of box. I have a book I can donate which I can't seem to give away.

So AlexS says he won't be doing it with one hand tied behind his back, so perhaps he should be forced to make his box out of MDF only, to give the rest of us a fighting chance! His work is so inspiring.

Initial ideas for our Box Challenge of 2011
1. you can enter up to three boxes
2. boxes can be built, turned, scrolled, carved, bandsawn etc
3. boxes do not have to be built within the timeframe of the competition, but this is preferred
4. boxes entered must not have won a prize in any competition wherever that competion was held
5. boxes entered must not have been previously entered in a Woodworking Australia's Woodwork Forums box challenge
6. photos of boxes must not have been previously published, whether here, eg Boxes thread, or your blog or your Album, in a book or magazine, or in any other internet forum or home page.
7. boxes must be 100% your own work, e.g. you put it together, did the joinery, sized the timber, applied the finish and any decoration etc
Now for the twist:
one box to have wooden hinges and/or latch/catch/handle
one box to include a found object
one box to be anything you like.
International Entries are Welcome.
Submissions:
All entries must be sent via email to RufflyRustic by 6 pm some day, some date in the nearish future 2011. I'll send the details to all entrants a little closer to the submission date.
Please send in 4 photos of your each project. All pictures must be sent via email to RufflyRustic on or before the finishing time and date, xxxxxx.
Photo 1 - closed
Photo 2 - open
Photo 3 - any view of the box with something to show perspective, eg a matchbox
Photo 4 - a clear closeup of a particularly neat feature of your box or a WIP photo
Photos sent must meet the same criteria as the Forum Photo standards as this will make it easier for you to send in your submission and for us to create the photo vote thread.
Judging:
Judging will be in two parts. Part One will be an average score derived from the input of three anonymous Judges. Part Two will be from the results of an anonymous poll on the forums, this keeps it nice, easy, clean and fair. Poll results will be kept hidden.
The poll will be open from the day the photo thread is up and will close at 6pm on the following xxxxxxx .
In the event of a draw, the final decision will be made by forum administrators Ubeaut and , both of whom have judged at national level.
Please Note: If you blog your entry, post pictures of your entry anywhere, or identify your work before the voting closes, you will be disqualified.
Prizes may or may not be offered. (I am open to offers)
_____________
Comments and questions welcome.
Also, how long would you like the competition to run. Finish by end of July, mid-July, end of August You tell me Option with the most support by Wednesday will be picked.
____________
Also, would anyone object if I entered? If I do enter, I don't get to vote because I'll see whose entries are whose and it is not not fair to vote knowing that. And if my box wins, I don't get a prize, (if prizes eventuate).
Over to you all now
Cheers

A good set of rules there. So well done Wendy. Can I suggest the poll results kept hidden until the polled is closed?
BWT, Alex does a lot of things with 1 hand, but making a box....Nah.Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com

Well done Wendy! Very fair and thorough.
My only requested change would be for only one entry per person.
That being said, I have been away from the forum for some time, so don't really have the right to dictate terms.
Happy to agree to terms as listed.Greatest Movie Quote Ever: "Its good to be the king!"____________________________
