I wanted to put mine on a little trimmer, I made my own template base out of perspex.

I have a rotary tool that takes 1/4 inch router bits,
unfortunately not plunge, and a milescraft base plate from a sign making kit, so will attempt a marriage between the two.
Or make a thin adapter plate.

Hi,
Yes you will need the template kit. A plate fits between the router and the base plate, this has the screw holes to mount the guides in the kit which include a plate with a hole to line every thing up, this plate is also for fitting brass guide like the one in your kit.
Like Cliff I got a trimmer but found it unsatisfactory as it does not have a plunge mode, and at 75 I find I am not steady enough for the inserts, the recess is OK as you do not have to start exactly on the line.

I use the brass guides on my Triton quite a bit. I knocked up a perspex base plate for the Triton on the CNC machine. Still have the code for it.

If you want, I can knock one up for you. Not sure where in Perth you are, but if it's worth it to you to come to Ellenbrook for one, I'm happy to do a freebie for you.

I live somewhat north east of you, about 3 hours drive.

I do most of my major shopping in Perth, so your place is no prob.

OK I ended up with a Milescraft inlay kit. cost around 65.00, only 15 bucks more than the brass inlay kit. The Milescraft comes complete with base, 4 template plates,4 guides, etc etc.
It will rout designs,rout cutouts and also do the same inlay function as the brass thingy.
Got it from Hague Gobby, Bench Standard in Melbourne. Ordered it Monday, arrived in the back blocks of WA on Wednesday.
Haven't used it in anger as yet, tried design work, ,inlay and a cutout, seems to work real good.
All that for sixty five bucks plus freight. I stopped adding up around $ 140 dollars at they who shall not be named, and ended up with a more versatile gadget.
The Gobby's are firing up big time and already demonstrating their usual can do attitude.

I have the same inlay template guide with a Triton Router and intend to go the perspex baseplate route. An additional advantage of this approach is that you get better visibility of the job as the router progresses.
