Is this worth buying
I have never used a dovetail jig but no doubt will want to do so in future as I hope to start box making.
I have the chance of a Carba-Tec D/T jig & bit at a reasonable price (about 1/3rd of the new price) but have no idea whether I need to buy the jig appropriate to the project be undertaken or whether this would be a good choice to start with
Input would be appreciated

If you want a dovetail jig for box making stay well clear of all half-blind jigs like this one. Even the good quality jigs like the Trend jig are really only good for making drawers. No matter how well they are set up, the finished result just screams "machine made!!!".
Through dovetail jigs produce vastly superior looking joints. The Gifkins jig is probably the best all rounder but the Leigh is the Rolls Royce of them all. With a commensurate price tag!
This jig you're considering, if you can get it for $15 then I would say go for it just so you have something to use as a basis for comparison, plus at the end of the day they are quick to set up and will make simple boxes for storing tools etc. But seriously I wouldn't pay any more than that for a used one, and I'd never buy a Chinese one new. My own is a Trend and I made some modifications to make it perform at its best, but it's still only good for drawers and toolboxes!

I have one of these and have varying degrees of success but I have found that practice makes perfect, for someone who can't do hand man dovetails it suits me just fine. Cheers JD
