    Default Epoxy resin

    Another question!

I have read about finishing with a clear epoxy ( liquid glass), Filling holes in wood with epoxy, glueing with epoxy such as araldite.

    So what's the difference?

Could I use west instead of araldite for glue? When needed around and about at home.

Can I fill wood, finish and glue with west epoxy for example? Or does it only serve one purpose as marine epoxy?

Love to know, which you use to fill gaps ? which as an adhesive?

    What's the difference?

    - Araldite is about 3-4 times the price (750 ml of marine epoxy will cost you about $40; 200ml of Araldite will cost you $60)
    - They make ocean going wooden yachts with marine epoxy as the only fastener. They don't, as far as I know, make boats with Araldite.
    - Anything you can do with Araldite, you can do with a marine epoxy, but a bit better and certainly cheaper.

Read the West Epoxy website for uses. The Australian made BoteCote epoxy can also be purchased with a water-clear resin for tabletop use, but personally I prefer oil finishes.

I agree with what Master Splinter has said.

From a personal perspective I have used West System to glue and fill. Also tinted it and used as a feature.

It's essentially the same, but extra (somethings) have been done to make the hardener closer to a very faint, almost not there yellow colour rather than a strong straw colour. Generally the same resin can be used with either the standard and the clear hardeners. (west 105 resin can be used with any of the fast/slow/extra slow/clear hardeners that west makes).
