Live edge bench seat restoration
This live edge bench seat is in regular use outside my wife's customer's home. Before restoration the top was splitting and had some terrible rot due to the incomplete finish. The joints were held together with poorly suited metal brackets that let the seat rack and wobble. I straightened the legs, created new strong morticed joints, replaced the rot, and added bow tie joints to stabilise the cracks. Then I filled all the cracks with UV stabilised epoxy resin and added a top coat. I'm very happy with the results and think the seat looks fantastic.

Looks good, a great repair. I presume it doesn't get full sunlight UV?

Lovely work denim! What did you use for the bowties? Thanks, Al

Thanks Alan. I used some scrap cypress pine for the bowties which was the best I had to match the colour in the highlights of the seat. I know it can be a brittle timber but also knew the epoxy would hold that crack from splitting.
The seat gets partial sun and the owner will be covering it with a blanket when not in use.
Regards,
Denim.
