    Default Marri Slab

    Hi Guys,
I have a 4000mm by 900mm karri slab that I plan to use as a kitchen benchtop.
The problem i have is that when i fill the gum pockets with resin the resin wont stick properely and i end up with an air pocket between the resin and timber which is a white colour.
The timber has been sealed with white polish as i was told this would help but it hasn,t.

    Any ideas.

well you have me stumped .. the title says "Marri" slab but you post mentions "Karri". I'll assume it to be Marri as that is a more common furniture timber (blond, commonly with large sap pockets) as distinct from Karri (straight grained red timber ... not greatly dissimilar to Jarrah).

My normal approach to filling sap pockets in Marri is to fill with epoxy coloured with cement colouring (normally a black oxide) but I don't know how that would take to the white polish as it's supposed to be a waxy sort of shellac finish.

    Cheers Ramps,

Yeh I ment Marri. The fumes must have got to me.
The guy at the first fibreglass shop sold me a polyester resin which i have just learnt, shrinks as it cures hence causing the white dis-colouration.
Tried the epoxy last night and all seems to be fine.
