    Default Mica finish

    Hi all,

I'm interested in using mica powder as part of a finish, but I would like to try to preserve some wood grain showing through to make a sort of semi-transparent finish. To do so I was thinking about mixing it with oil and doing a handrubbed method for it.

So to my question, I was wondering if mica powder would adhere properly when mixed in with a finishing oil like danish or similar, or if it requires something more like a lacquer? Any experiences? The oil would be getting a coat or two of wax over the top as well if that makes a difference.

    Thanks

Should mix and work well with shellac. Dewaxed White for a clear finish or regular Golden/Orange Shellac for a more honey colour.

if its small enough, try it with clear nail polish.
    try it in some varnish,
Or even try it thru a .5mm airbrush and see how that goes.

Thanks for the suggestions. Time for some experimenting I suppose.
I have some Tru Oil laying about at the moment that I might try and see if the powder stays well enough in the top film. If not, then shellac is probably the goer for me
