Default Sanding sealer on veneered mdf

I have made some Murphy folding bunk beds for the kids and am using a walnut veneered mdf for the base. The veneer is quite smooth and doesn't require any additional sanding. I will be using a NC satin finish. I have never sprayed a veneered panel before nor used walnut as a veneer but I have experience with solid walnut. I was wondering if I should bother with a sanding sealer prior to the NC coats? I'm reluctant to do much sanding on the veneer anyway, it's a piddly .5mm thick so very little there should i get a bit excited with the orbital. Being mdf I'm not sure if the nc will just soak in coat after coat of I don't seal it?

    any thoughts?

The finish on walnut veneer that I used a lot was a finish sand with 150 grit then two coats of sanding sealer, with a light sand after each (180 grit), followed by two top coats with a very light rub with a worn 600 grit between the two top coats to remove the odd dust speck. The second top coat can be thinned to dry off extra fast and repeated.

If you want to add colour to the timber I used a lightly tinted top coat layer under the two top coats. The tint that I used was a spirit based stain that is now hard to get.

This combination gave the best looking result without choking the grain.

Thanks for that, looks like I'll spray a sealer first.
