    Default Wax polish over Danish oil

    Have just finished a jarrah dining chair with "Organoil" Danish oil and polished it with 1500 grit. Looks great but would like to give it a final polish with wax. Can buff the seat but will have to hand polish all the other bits.

    Organoil suggest their own wax finish, but would like to find out if there is a better one in the U beaut range...

    Any good carnauba-based paste wax will do well. Just don't expect too much protection. Danish oil dries quite soft and wax will wear away quickly. Just plan on re-waxing regularly.

    Yes, I agree with Bob.

    If you want a higher lustre, wax will give it to you but you can also try buffing the DO.

    ... oh, and as for brands the Ubeaut Traditional Wax comes up well. The only brand to match it is Gilly Stephenson's Cabinet Makers Wax and that's harder work to use.

    You could try the Feast Watson carnauba wax which comes in a dark colour as well as natural - the dark wax on Jarrah will give it a lovely richness of finish like old brown leather shoes that have been regularly done with boot polish.

    I used dark FW wax over Danish Oil on a teak veneer sideboard (see my avatar pic) at the suggestion of Les Miller and was 110% happy with the finish.

    I've just tried U Beaut Traditional Wax over Scandinavian Oil on pine and it seemed to take quite well. Looks OK. I've also used the same wax over Organoil (the high speed burnishing type) which I had applied by sanding it in with my random orbital sander. It looked great at that stage and then with the wax on it was even better.
    Suggest that you try it on a sample if you can.

    Gilly's is so rarely mentioned on these forums that I thought I was the only one... and don't mention it myself 'cos I've also come to prefer our host's product.


    (Anyone want to buy half a shelf full of assorted GS waxes? )

    It was the first wax I worked with. Then tried Liberon Black Bison which hardened too quickly and was prone to build-up, and now I've seen the light and been saved by Trad Wax.
