    Default wrong finish

I have done something quite silly really and have use a stain that is far to light for my needs. I have made a thin waterfall style bench for behind my couch out of pine. I have not used a gloss stain or put a finishing coat on it.
my question is this. Would I be ok to put a darker stain over the top or will I have to sand it back to bare wood?

Provided it is purely a stain, water, oil or spirit based then you can just apply a darker one over the top.

If it is an all-in-one stain and varnish type you will need to sand back to bare timber again.
