Paul you need to use a router with a 6mm bit, in slow passes taking off 1-2mm each pass, otherwise it will clog.

I have made up an MDF jig that screws to the fingerboard and upon which the router slides. Don't use the simple fence that the router comes with, that's asking for trouble and a horrible mess.

I'll try to dig out a picture of the jig for you. Maybe someone else can show you a pic of one in operation? or maybe someone else has another trick.

Don't use the circular saw, please. You'd make less mess with the broadsword.

iv used my saw table a fair few times to do truss rod slots....
mainly because i dont have the spare cash to go out and grab a few smaller (10mm) router bits.....

the saw works.... but you would wanna have a fair bit of experience with it and a table... lol

althought i am in no way suggesting you do it

im sure Stu or Peter would have a pic up of the truss rod slotting process on this forum...
the better way to do it... lol

here's a pic in this page the way I do them.

pic. number 12 to 15 should help explain things.
I use steel tube steel as guides. I've been meaning to make up a jig
for ages but never get around to it.
