Ray (The Old Picker) has a thread going on reliable vendors, search that,

Ray's list is great for reliable and 'traditional' (for want of a better word) vendors. Pickguard material can readily be picked up from Australian Luthier Supplies and others, but there has to be non-luthier type alternatives ... even just to increase the DIY feel.

I'm near the end of a build and I need to do cavity covers and a truss rod cover. I've experimented with a couple of different plastics, including old DVD covers, but I still haven't found the right material.

So I'd also like to find an alternative supplier of pickguard and cavity materials ... but I suspect I'll be going back to ALS (which is not a bad thing ... just too easy).

There is plenty of places that deal in plastics, many will only sell a full sheets which would be cheap at a per guitar price but a sheet would make more guitars than you can poke a stick at, some of the small fabricators will sell you there off cuts and a slab of beer sometimes goes a long way.

you could try your local sign writer / supplier, these guys usually have to supply perspex, plastics for signs etc. +1 for australian luthier supplies too.
