i have found that as i have grown older my ears have become deaf to certain items on the current list in fact i have found certain words are totally inaudible due to extensive overuse - paint is one, guttering is another, fix and mow are also coming close to fading from my ear completely - items containing inaudible words eventually get forgotten and thankfully left behind in the dusty coridors of life

i have found that swmbo as a list keeper to be very efficient at reminding me constatntly of priority list items and thanks to her i need no infernal "to do list"

Words of wisdom from some one who truly understands, Thanks Ray and yes when I refer to the to do list, swmbo is exactly what I'm referring to.

So if we cant learn to build guitars on this forum at least we can learn some of life's great mystery's.

Hey Wal, just thought you'd like to get a listen to those pickups I showed you a few pages back.
I finally set up a Youtube page and uploaded some improv vids
My playing is rubbish, but it was one take on each track and no editing,,,, thats my excuse anyway
This should at least give you a better idea of how Neodymium poles sound.
Around 7600 winds of 42 AWG - per coil.

    and

Just remember,,,, one take on each track, no editing and a self admitted total lack of playing skill,,,, be gentle

Thanks man, I used some industrial grade floor urethane. It goes on easy, cleans up easy, is easy to touch up if theres ever any dings and its as hard as turtle tits

I figgured its designed to take a real flogging and still come up good with a pollish.
It goes on easily enough and I've never had any problems with it, so thats what I use all the time.
I use 7008 two pack also, but havent in years because its really toxic.
Its good stuff, but will kill you quicker than crack.

Ah yes the to do list, your welcome.

Thanks so much Oz, I feel honored that you chose my threat to post on.

Thant is some seriously good sh&*^%&^t. and I now feel even more determent to build my own pups.

I'd post some progress pics but the transition between raw timber and completed spay and buff can be pretty ugly, and as I've never sprayed before and still learning I've made some monumental stuff ups , so you'll have to wait .
Btw Oz, how did you apply the urethane and did you thin it down with anything, and if so, what?

Did you use nio poles in all the bobbins for each pick up or did you distribute the field to the other bobbin via a metal plate and standard pole pieces?

    regards to all

Sprayed with a compressor n car spray unit. The spray gun is a typical car spray gun, so its a little too big for doing a guitar, but I get by with it. It gets the job done, but theres always enough waste to do another guitar. I really should pick up a "touch up" gun. It thins down and washes up with turps. I think all urethane does, yes?

And yes, Neo poles in all slots and metal base plate. Ive played around with all kinds of variations and come up with using short Neo poles stacked on short, standard metal poles underneath. Being that the Neo poles have a HUGE pull, im trying to keep them from affecting the string tune.
I read ages ago that too many pups (or too strong poles) under the strings can cause very slight tune issues, in that the field/s can drag the strings out of a "natural" waver and basically hold the strings in the field more than they need to, or should. Thats what I understand of it.

Ultimately ive come up with using 5mm x 10mm Neo poles sitting on short metal poles/lugs to complete the hole lengths, so that the fields at the bottom of the Neo poles pass through the coils more directly, and also pass on the magnettic field to the metal poles/lugs underneath. And yes, my pickups are usually much higher than the standard humbucker bobbins.
It's a bit hard to explain here, but I guess I should take a few pics of the next set I make. Which reminds me,,, gotta order more Neo poles

Ok Oz, you asked for updates and here you go but as I've said earlier, the process of spraying can look pretty ordinary until the final buffing and the spray job isn't finished and it's not buffed.
