Build #1
So I finally got my shed built, cabinets and tables made and at least some tools purchased. I could wait no longer, so build number 1 under way.
I don't know if it's a great idea or not. But I decided that rather and destroy quality timber with my first build I would used recycled stuff from my local demolitions.
Anyway some pics...
Some old silky oak sourced and resawn for the back.
Joined...
Back bracing...
Some more silky oak for the sides...
Successfully bent...
Ongoing progress to follow soon

I saw some magnificent guitars built from recycled scrap materials at the Melbourne guitar makers festival, If your finish is as good as current progress, I'm sure it'll be fantastic .

Thanks mate!
Very jealous of your attendance the Melbourne Guitar Maker's Fest. Bit far for me to travel.

Hi heytman,
great to see another acoustic build going on, what body shape or size is that ?
Silky looks good
I went to the festival as well, great show , but I ran out of time and didn't get to see every thing, The makers were very interesting to talk to

Great effort heytman.
Love the Silky Oak, don't find that as recycled timber down this way unfortunately.

My neighbor cut down two large ish Australian silky oaks and stuck em on the nature strip for fire wood but I managed to score the stumps. His neighbor also has a large silky oak that he wants cut down but cant afford the tree lopper fees, if I had the energy and a big enough chain saw I'd do it for him.

Found this photo showing the source of the soundboard timber.
Probably hoop or bunya pine. I'm really not sure how to tell the difference...
Not really quartersawn - but pretty close.

Some progress on the neck.
Spent a lot of time sharpening spoke shaves etc... But ended up doing most of it with files. I thought the "feel" was better.
You can see that I've also built my Neck Joint Routing Jig.

But for now some pics.
And plays OK as well...
