Default New Build...27.5" Baritone Setneck RG

Time for a new build. I got my new bandsaw last week. I bought the carbatec CTJ3501 14" from sydney tools. I dont know how ive lasted this long with out one. Its got heaps of power and a nice big table and can resaw up to 200mm..

So with the bandy up and running, i started work on my new build yday.
Ive always wanted an all mahogany RG so thats wat im making.
Mahogany neck and body, bloodwood fingerboard wit 27.5" scale, floyd rose(my first attempt so im scared), not sure on pups yet but prob a mick b pup in the bridge position. Its also my first setneck so hopefully it turns out alrite..
    Time for some pics..
I rough cut the body on the bandy first, I got pretty close to the lines for my first go

Then i got ready to rout the final shape wit the template that I got ahwile back

Using my new router for the first time..Dont tease me about buying a gmc but i was broke from the bandy..And its surprisingly a really really good router..Smashes my old ryobi.

    After routing

Then i moved onto the fingerboard. I decided to bind it using .5mm black and .5mm bloodwood veneer stuck together. The pics dont show it very well but it came out real good. I was heaps happy

I finished up the day routing for the trussrod. Nice snug fit..I really like these LMI truss rods.

Thats all for now. Maybe more work tomorrow

Got a bit more done today. More cut the neck taper, finished up the binding and glued the binding on.
I thought id try thinning out the headstock on the bandsaw. I cut 3mm off each side. I had the face run along the fence but the back was free handed. Went a little wonky but i fixed it up wit a scraper and then sanded.

That jobs lookin sharp man! I think im going to bind my next fingerboard. It really makes it look neat.

The only problem ive found with cheap routers, with the first time you think the bearing is making a little noise, pull it down and grease it up or replace it. I had 2 that i put under the bench and purchased new ones. I replaced the bearings in both of those last week and now i have a couple of extra routers. The original bearings they put in them are total crud.

Got a bit more work done today. Routed the neck taper and got the neck pocket routed. Its a damn nice fit too. Really really snug. Ill get the pup routs and the floyd rose rout done tomorrow and hopefully the neck carve.

Im gonna leave this natural, no paint or stain. Wats the best oil to use? Is it just a matter of grainfilling and then oiling it? I want it to look really natural.
I was thinking of dying it black and then sanding it back but I dont think i have any black dye. And wat kind of oil do i use on the fb?

holy crap i better get cracking on my rg!!

looks good man, pocket looks neat
when did you get floyd templates?

tin of tung oil from bunnings is what i have been using lately, looks decent on the mahogany.
lemon oil for fingerboards, and put it on after you apply your finish haha

    Thanks mate.
My dad made the floyd templates for me on his cnc. Theyre pretty good. Clear perspex with a thin centerline scribed on them. I guess ill find out today how accurate they are. Im pretty nervous about routing it actually lol. Ill post some pics later on
