I just finished build #3 and thought I would share some pics. It's obviously a simple strat type build however I did reshape it slightly during the process. The back is mahogany and the fingerboard is rosewood. The top is made from a piece of American black walnut that I had lying around. It had an interesting figure so I had it resawn at the local mill (I don't own a bandsaw) and it came out better than I thought it might. It has a schaller rollerbridge with EMG SRO pickups and grover rotomatic locking tuners.
I had a go at some basic binding and I also hollowed out the top so that it has a slight acoustic tone if played unplugged which is nice. I was going to go with danish or tung oil finish however I had some shellawax cream lying around and gave it a go. Whilst it is certainly far from a protective finish and isn't really intended for this purpose it brought out the grain nicely and feels great. I'll probably look at a more permanent solution at some stage.
whoohoo - thats my favorite combination
mahogany with a walnut top
it works really well - i have done 3 with a further body awaiting my undivided
the three i have completed were real crackers -
i bet this one is as well
great looking build
Thanks for that mate. I have never considered that wood combo before however I must admit I did change things as I went and wasn't even going to go with a top. The gold equipment and binding was also not planned. Overall however it turned out well. I'll probably try a maple back and walnut top next build (I still have some nicely figured walnut left from the same piece).
Nice work Andrew.
I'm currently working on a couple which will be using that bridge (1 in black, 1 in chrome), looks to be a nice solid piece of equipment. Hope I can get mine looking as good as yours.

Thanks Roscoe. I thought the roller bridge might be interesting to try and I'm glad I did. It looks the part on the guitar and feels solid and really well put together.
