    Default New Build, 7 String

    hello ladies and gentlemen

my other thread was getting pretty damn big, so i thought i may aswell make another

this one will be a 7 string....

    hardtail bridge,

    string through,

single humbucker, direct mounted, no pickup ring...

    volume/tone (possibly coil split),

stew mac jumbo fretwire (unless i get my hands on the dunlop wire im looking for)

    7 inline headstock,

looks like it will have to be 25.5" scale as i cant afford a 27" board at the moment...

not sure about the neck joint yet,
i wouldnt mind a 4 or 5 piece laminate neck thru....
but im not sure if i can pull that off by hand (one of those times a thickneser would be nice lol)

i want to try an ibanez style scarf joint,
    decent angle on the headstock,

i think the fretboard will have to be bound, we will see when i start measuring...

im thinking its about time i attempt some kind of fretboard inlay....
so im trying to think of something to inlay that is simple yet cool lol....

now i just have to decide on a body shape....
im thinking i may keep it simple and do a super strat style body...

and i need to decide if i will use the maple board or the rosewood, or if i can get a 27"

we shall see how i go....

i still have a handfull of parts that i need to grab, and i will update as i go

crappy pics, but you get the idea

sounds nice! would the 27" scale make it a baritone? or not quite? would be an interesting setup either way? call it the Boeing 727 - 7 string 27 scale?

    cheers bob,

    tbkmagic,
yea the 27'' would be baritone i guess...

would be nice if i could get my hands on one to play for a week or so to have a feel of a different scale length, but meh.....
if 25.5 isnt for me then someone else can take the stupid thing

i was actually about this __________________ close to doing an 8 string,
but a mate talked me into thinking about building him one,
so when i get some $$ you blokes will probably witness a build thread containing two 8 strings being build at the same time

Finally!!! I've been watching Andy's forum's for a long time and finally got my parents to let me have an E-mail so I could sign up! I'm 15 and ambitious as to learning to build a guitar, and it would cost me plenty of money so i wanna know how to do it right! Plus I live in the U.S. . . . Not Australia. . .

Welcome! Don't need to be an aussie to contribute here, infact if you want to learn about guitar building, then this is a great place to get the info. Alot of helpful people hang around willing to answer q's. There is one requirement for posting on Andy's threads, and that is you have to give him heaps (insults that is), just kidding. Andy loves building people guitars for free, so just ask. For example:

Hey Andy, I'll have the rosewood fretboard please? It is that simple.

    Have fun,

    Cheers,

    Peter
