First build....sort of..!!!
OK, don't laugh.........I'll start by saying, I have no equipment or "building from scratch" skills, so I'm not starting there. But, you gotta start somewhere so as a first project to get into the learning phase of at least putting a guitar together, I have everything needed to do it. In the deep end in a fashion because this monster is a 6/12 electric.
So what will this teach me? well the assembly basics I guess, have you seen the parts involved in a 6/12....thats scary all on it's own.
If anyone has put one of these monsters together let me know.....I'm guessing I'm going to get stuck somewhere...!!!!!
I'll whack photos up if anyone's interested before I get started........I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew...!!!

Once youve bolted the thing together we can get you started on something a bit more challenging like a 12 string dreadie
Whatever note you blow youre never more than a semitone away from the correct one....(Miles Davis)

Here's a photo of the body, doing a little more to this just with hand tools, cleaning up etc.....I've started making some of the routes a little bigger....not much just to suit myself really, I'll get that over and done with tomorrow, maybe...and the other photo is the parts that will go to putting this all together, god knows there's enough, and the wiring should be fun....A Twelve string dreadie????!!!! hell no, by the time I save up enough money to just by the tools I'd need for a project like that I'd have 20 guitars built and sitting in the studio...!!!!

Thanks....I'm not sure how many coats i want to give it....the more i put on the darker it's going to get, and I don't want it too dark, so I'll do one more and see how it looks. I was thinking of spraying a colour, but thats all too common and I think I'm over bright shiny guitars, I'd like to go with something maybe a bit rustic...if that makes sense?
It's an experiment really, and something to practise wiring on as well. I've replaced pickups in a couple of my other guitars but never done a full wiring job. It's funny, after playing guitar for so many years this is the first time I've decided to put one together.
Ok...I know there's not as much skill involved as in making one from scratch, but I've only got so much spare time and i don't want to spend months working on an instrument, and I don't have the tools either. So it's this or nothing.
Just for the record and to stick to the forum rules, I use to sell kits and parts etc.not anymore..it was short lived, and I've moved very quickly onto something more profitable, not because it wasn't successful but because what I'm doing now pays a lot more, and as much as I love guitars, I can't work two jobs. I go for the dollars nothing else. I love McDonalds burgers from time to time but I'm not going to work there...!!!! I think that explains it pretty well.
So, yep, there are double neck kits out there, infact there's anything in kit form you can think of including Banjo's and Ukes. Never are they going to be as good as a handmade instrument, or a Custom Shop build factory guitar, but they are pretty damn good.
Will put more photos up tomorrow...........

Looking Good Ghost
Can I ask a favor? What is the distance between the neck pockets?
I have made a template for a Double neck but I guessed at it and I would like to compare the distance

Well, I didn't have much to do today, so I almost finished this beast off, the wiring was fun NOT.nah wasn't so bad, it's just wiring two guitars, and then throwing a 3 way in the middle to select necks. Decided against more coats of stain, as it soaks into the wood and if it got too dark and I didn't like it, it would mean a hell of a lot of sanding.
I thought of doing something with the headstocks but then just went with the fact that the body has points, so I figured the headstocks should as well...!!! Dunno...like i said earlier, it's just something to muck around with and experiment with wiring etc.
I'll string up the 12 string today sometime....and then a hell of a lot of bridge adjusting to do.....what fun..!!!!! Then plug her in a play away.....I'll throw a video up of it in a few days.....

Well, thats it for this one......Basswood body (anything else would just be too damn heavy, this beast weighs a tonne as it is) Mahogany necks with Rosewood fretboards, stock tuners and pickups. Sound.bloody great, lots of grunt from the six string and very sweet tones from the 12........problems...had to do a bit of work (slow at that) on the neck pockets until I was happy with the way the necks sat...and a lot of adjusting at the bridge. The scratch plates ended up not quite fitting how I wanted them due to some wiring/switch mods but I'll sacrifice that for better sound, after all, thats what it's all about, for me anyway.
