My first cajon
Cajon in the raw prototype. ( ie I havent dressed it up nice yet) Still playing with sounds and position of things.
4 woods, providing multiple sounds, taps, clicks and internal snare.
The side, top n bottom is 19mm pine, back is 6mm ply
Side2 is bamboo floor boards 15mm and tapa is melamine covered masonite.
top left of tapa is loose to provide flamenco type click sounds.
Wood was basically what i had lying around in the shed. extremely happy with the sounds.
Boo side holds the snare adjuster handle. The snare required a cam like approach to get it to lay flat against the tapa(front/skin). So far its relying on wood friction to hold in place. I might have to come up with some trickery later when it wears.
The snare is a standard 42 strand drum snare wire cut in two. I went for the single but wider than normal(20) and offset it to the upper left so cleanish toms are available on the right.
Groovy sound hole. I didnt have a large enough cutter so I cut 4 holes in this shape.
Top has inlay leather strap for carrying and slightly indented grooves for but cheek comfort.
Isolated from floor with rubber feet(actually they are door stops, no one, ok ok bunnings, dont have solid rubber feet anymore) I cut them down and angled them to provide a more ergonomic position.

I didn't know that drum was called a cajon. It makes sense considering how it is played. Nice proto.
Cheers, Bill

Even a proto needs a finish and a bit of decorating.
I messed around with various router bits, freehand.
Created a "grate" at the top and a sweet spot under it, which works when its miked but not really loud enough live.

Thanks. I couldn't see the pics in the first post.
Interesting cajon.
I like your cam/snare adjuster.
The rubber feet do look too tall. I have often had trouble finding the shorter rubber feet. They are still about but you have to find a shop that carries them.Scally
