i noticed that Stu when i was stalking some of your pics
your templates are labeled for tight fit etc... (i think it was tight fit lol.. well i noticed they were labeled)
i may see if i have a slightly larger bearing and make a smaller set of mdf templates....
the thing im having trouble with at the moment are getting the pup routs lined up with the bass.....
the single string bridges were a b*tch to get mounted and straight... and i have set them to match the neck taper nicely so obviously the pole pieces on the pups wont line up 100 percent... but i would like to get them as centred as possible....
i have an idea i will try tomorrow or monday.... otherwise i dont know lol
theres always frustrating parts in a build!!!!
i also made a boo boo.... didnt notice how far the barrel jack actually came into the cavity, so theres a bees dick between the end of the jack and the tone pot -_-
i may just whack an oval jack plate on it and be done with it... we shall see

Well spotted.
I use my own tight bucker routing templates for no pup surrounds and another
one for pup surrounds. The latter is between the tight fit and the stewmac one in size.
Always check rout bought templates prior to routing on your workpiece as they may not work exactly to the dimensions you prefer to work to.

yea...
i was actually drawing up a to scale diagram of a new body design (7 string)
and i went to use one of the humbucker templates to trace it.... using the centreline i had already markd on the body i added 5mm either side.. and drew it up... it didnt look right so i got out the digital callipers and found the centreline is a few mm's off centre on a couple of templates....
i talk to a swiss luthier regularly and asked him about his stew mac templates....
he says he never trusted the centrelines.... he lines the templates up using the neck taper....

What Ive Done
Ok, I havent posted in 2 days,, i think,,,, so heres what i've been up to.
I finally thought I should get on with making the pup rings and now its done.
I was going to go for a slightly different shape, but I figgured it looked much neater with straight edges and a rounded top edge.
Then today I got busy with the fretboard.
Also almost finished the headstock, but it needs the final coat just yet.
So thats me for today.
I should be putting it all together in the next 2 or 3 days, so I just might get it finished in the alotted time.

Thanks Pix and Dad. Im happy with them. Just wish I had some more of it (Amazon ebony) kicking around. That was the last of it,,, bugger,,,, i think.
I guess I should think about getting more,,, someday! But I cant honestly remember who I ordered it from in the first place.
I do have a bit of indian ebony and rosewood comming soon. Ive used the second last piece of that stuff (previous order) on this neck project. It has a few slighit brown tinges through it, but is mostly jet black.
A little oil over it shoud really darken it up, but im not sure whats best.
Tung oil sound reasonable to you folks?

Still waiting for those last few frets to come. I carved it too,.i forgot to post pics...Ill do that soon lol..
oooh i started painting my V today!!!! Reshaped the headstock too...its something a bit differtent...should look cool..Do i have to sand or something in between coats? I talked to my pop who was a spray painter and he said it doesnt really need it

the light sand between coats is to make sure you get a flat finish....
theres nothing like doing 10 coats and spotting a run or a ridge that has occured 3 coats in.....
sanding will also give the next coat something to grab onto i supose
