As soundman says chisel boxes are great. I also keep an eye open in junk shops and hardware places for bits and pieces that could go into cbg builds. Stuff like brass eyelets, box corners, brass bolts(make good bridges and nuts) and whatever else takes the fancy.

This one is my current reach for cbg as slide is fun and reasonably eazy to learn. I have a turning chisel box in the shed but it is about briefcase size so still mulling over what to make with it. Has a nice deep tone when you tap on it so perhaps a base guitar one day.
There are no real doos or don'ts with CBGs so jump in and try out your ideas.

I always thought a Grange Hermitage box would be fun.

If anyone has a grange box they wish to donate I'll give it a crack. The cardboard cask does not quite cut it sound wise. Perhaps the bladder has some musical application.

Cant help you with the grange box....but I recon if you soaked the cardboard in shelac the Chataeu cardboard container would crisp up quite well.
