Thread: Drop A????

I have tried the "E" guitar down to drop "A" but with nylon string conversion on an old '67 Egmond archtop. & yes all the strings were nylon down to 1.56mm for the bass side .55mm treble. I used monofillament fishing line (the specs are as least as good as nylon strings nowdays)
The result was different to say the least. No punch at all in the bass region of corse, but it had a well a 'loose spagetti' kind of nice ness to it, is all I could say.Richard

Drop B
Does a drop B require any specific design considerations ... or particular choice of strings?
Son # 3 wants me to do a build that he'll tune to drop B. My builds so far have been 25.5" scale with D'Addario regular light strings.
Andy B, Floody ... apparently Parkway Drive use drop B???

gday dado
yes parkway use drop b,
bullet for my valentine use drop c,
i use my strat for drop b....
with ernie ball strings... 11 - 48
they go alright.... could do with some more tension though...
iv been hearing about these elixer coated nanoweb strings lately,
a mates been raving about them lol,
so im going to give them a go soon....
maybe do a baritone for him?
i dont think we have had a baritone build on here yet
but theres no probs doing these tunings with your standard 25.5''

25.5" is capable of drop b. My rg is 25.5 and its always in c. I find 11 to 48 are to light for tuning that low. A heavier gauge will make it less muddy. I have 13 to 58 i think on my rg and it handles drop b with ease..I think I have even gone to Drop A for a bit of InFlames
But if you are gonna make another one, make a baritone..It will be much better to play and good for us to watch

Drop A is certainly possible on 25.5" providing there's enough intonation adjustment and the guy is willing to use an appropriate gauge set of strings. You'll need around 7mm of saddle travel beyond the end of the scale length and something around the .065 - .070 string size probably. You certainly get a better tone from a longer scale though.

Yea the baritone is the way to go. I manage to tune to A with .58 but its a litlle muddy.. I tend to just stay in C and B if i have to but I dont really like lower than C anyway..
Go the baritone scale Dadovfor

To do a baritone I'd need to build the neck ... and there's an unfinished build or two in line before I get to that point.
We have a Les Paul knock-off in a standard tuning that never gets used ... I might have to re-string and re-tune that until I can get to the baritone
