Hehe....the old Holden vs Ford argument eh?
To me, Fenders have always looked like CHEAP instruments and that is because that's what Leo designed.....a bit like Henry Ford....
Les Paul for tone, looks........and STRENGTH by a country mile!
Not a bad doco but like others have said, nothing in it you probably didn't already know and couldn't read on the web......good to see solid bodies getting a bit of attention though.

Fender Stratocaster V Les Paul
Hi Jon,
As someone he can speak on this subject with confidence.
Fender- Gibson - Les Paul what ever. Unless you have them build you a custom built guitar there not all that brilliant. To me you can not beat a custom build.
And to be honest there is some of the best builders around here in Australia including members in this forum in both Electric and Acoustic builders and I am sure you all know who they are. I am not going to say as there heads might get too big.
And I dont want that to happen, so to all members please do not tell them.
Cheers Bob.

Haha, yup I think you are right there Bob. If you pay either Fender or Gibbo $10k I am sure they could conjure up something pretty sweet, and they could probably make a beer in a brewery too .
No offence to fender lovers with my comments folks hence the holden v ford comment.....ain't nobody right or wrong, just opionions and tastes......the gibbos have definitely inspired me and the fenders well......maybe a little bit.....oh ok not at all

its a telecaster deluxe
string through,
hardtail,
lace sensor humbucker in the bridge, and a lace sensor single coil in the neck....
white pickgaurd,
really nice thin neck, some nice dings in it too... real dark rosewood board, ageing nicely...
great grain in the body... burst (aging nicely after 10 years of road abuse, lots of dings, chips, etc)
has those stacked pots (blenders?)
has a coil tap for the bridge pickup and a 3way switch (or is it a 5way... been a while since iv played it)
theres a hell of alot of wire packed under that control plate
im not too keen on posting pics of it online.....
pretty rare guitar...
and..... i like to tease people
muhahahahaha

I like the Holden vs Ford analogy.
Having a personal preference for one brand or another is fine.........I'd always gravitated towards Gibsons, never found a Fender that felt "right", didn't like them.......... then about 12 years ago I picked up a s/hand 40th Anniversary Strat in a local store and the damned thing was near perfect for me and like my '96 tele Plus, it now lives happily along side our Gibsons (and others).

Fender did two versions of the Tele Plus.........one was a two p/up model with the h/bucker at the bridge, the other, like mine, had three single coil Lace Sensor p/ups with the added switch to give you the option of bridge and neck OR all 3 p/ups.
Mine is Blueburst w/- rosewood fretboard..........see the front row in my avatar pic.

Considering how many variations on a theme Fender's marketing gurus have come up with, it's kinda difficult to keep track but the following confirms my understanding........:
"The Telecaster Plus (Version One) came equipped with Lace Sensor pickups; "Dually Red-Red" in the bridge and "Blue" in the neck. The Telecaster Plus (Version Two) came with three "Gold" Lace Sensor pickups."
And.........:
"In the 1989-90 run, another model of the Telecaster Plus was put into production, called the Fender Telecaster Plus Deluxe, which was identical to the regular Telecaster Plus, except from the addition of a whammy bar, Schaller locking machine heads and a Wilkinson roller nut.
The Telecaster Plus Deluxe had 3 Fender Lace Sensor pickups, two at the bridge position and one at the neck."
That may not be definitive, but it's as close to the truth (as I understand it), as I've encountered.

I couldn't care less about Strats or Les Paul standards
I love the rare doublecut juniors with the p90's
and of course, the classic telecasters.

When I first started to play guitar I had a range of guitars in mind that I would love to own.
I own them all now & feel no need to discriminate brand to brand except when picking them up to play what they individually play best. If i want good clean upper fret access then its the SG for but there is nothing like a strat for those bell like tones the les paul well it sits on the shelf a bit. My Maton EBG808 Artist is what gets most of my play time.Richard
