For that matter, no truss rod? Is blackwood strong enough?

    cheers student

sounds samples might be a possibility in the future if the opportunity arises...

i got the mountain ash a looong time ago ...prob around early to mid 90's ...it came from Victoria

yes indeed...NO truss rod...no steel/metal/carbon fiber reinforcement of any kind and definitely no artificial finsh on neck surface

African Blackwood is the strongest and more importantly ...inert (impervious to atmospheric/seasonal variation) ....of all rosewoods imo

this is my 8th homebrew with necks without truss rod

the first one i built was last August...and it was cocobolo (also a very strong rosewood) which was a longer scale length to boot

it has not deviated one iota from wht it was when first built (i use strings gauge 10's tuned to standard pitch) ....the same goes for all my homebrews with necks without truss rod

???....if what happened to me happened on a guitar with no truss rod.....how would I adjust it??

A guitar I had that always had strings on it and therefore tension on the neck, had the strings taken off and it was left that way for about a month, after re-stringing, the neck was out, I guess the neck 'relaxed' a little having no tension on it for so long, or maybe it was that it was during summer and the heat helped the process, not sure. But anyway...if it hadn't had a truss rod to adjust and therefore pull it back into line, so to speak, what would I have done???

i wish u well in yer addressing of yer problems

which u prob would not have if yer guitar neck was entirely made of AFRICAN BLACKWOOD

    http://www.allbusiness.com/furniture.../506142-1.html

    http://www.guitarbench.com/2008/10/3...wood-database/

    Physical properties

The heartwood is dark brown to purplish black and sharply demarcated from the yellowish white sapwood. It has a straight grain, and very fine texture with an oily surface. It has a high tolerance to climate fluctuations.
It has a Janka rating of around 3500 and a specific gravity of 1.8. It contains quinonoid constituents which may be the cause of an allergic contact dermatitis in woodworkers exposed to African Blackwood.

    btw...maple janka rating ~1500

    dunno bout bullets

    but there is this....

    Woodall's Custom Workshop

African Blackwood can probably be considered the king of Nunchaku wood considering that it also is absolutely black (with a hint of purple grain beneath the surface), weighs a heavy 22.5 oz (80% heavier that Black Walnut) and has an absolute glass-like surface.
