Default who makes their own radius sanding blocks

just about to spring for the stewmac jobbies but before thought i would trawl for some DIY ideas - i need 10" and 12"

i recalled this post by stu wonder if any one knows the angle for 10"

i know you can do the job with hanging jigs and a router but hoping not to have to go to that extent - may as well radius the fretboard directly if you build that type of jig

the idea of pushing i stick through the drill press under the safe-t-planer certainly has its attractions

Old Picker, never thought about using a safety planer that way myself very interesting, but if it works......umm..ahh be very careful!

Here's a link to another interesting approach for 'how not to use' a router as well, much easier to get an accurate radius of any length though

Hi Ray, They are so easy to make with the safe-T planer it's not funny. I used a cad program to draw up the accurate radius, printed it on A4 and then transferred it to perspex to check my progress. If you need I can send you the pdf's for 10 n 12' curvatures. If you really really need I could make a couple o blocks for ya if you tell me how wide n how long you want them.

    regards

Slightly off topic, but if you plan on making some you may be interested.

For years I have used the 6" long timber radius blocks, however earlier thus year I swapped to the stewmac aluminum one that's the full length of a fretboard.

The full length one I am getting much better results from which means much less work at the fret mill stage = better guitars.

it is inevitable that i go that path - i made a block [18"] and it is not accurate enough
i am ordering one today - thinking of using a router jig to do the boards though - then sand an polish with the beam
will make the fret level way quicker as well
