Progress - where are you at?
Cmon folks, its been a bit quiet around here, my contribution, mando's with some finish. I'll let them dry/harden for another week and do some cleaning up.

Looking good Sebastiaan. A few questions. The one with the burl rosette, is it inlay or overlay? and what is the dark part of the face of the headstock on that one. I noticed you mark the frets the trad mando way by marking the tenth fret, I can't help marking the ninth even on my mandos as I'm more used to guitar. Also is that the truoil finish. It is quite glossy by the look of it or is that just on a good angle that it looks glossy.
I haven't gotten any further on the mando as I'm waiting for polyurthane to cure. Have just finished the fifteenth coat of Tung Oil on that Telealike Electric I posted though.

Wow Perry! there are some seriously nice guitars there. The quilt is amazing. Fabulous inlay as well. Enjoy the show and blow them away with your work, its fabulous! What did you use for the neck / backplates for the blue guitar?
Jim,
Mallee burl is inlaid on the soundboard, its a PITA to finish as the soundboard timber is so much softer that you end up sanding the burl with pinky size pieces but I really like the effect. The black on the headstock is dyed veneer. Yes, its Tru Oil over shellac which finishes to a high gloss, 15 coats padded on there."We must never become callous. That black on the headstock is very effective Seb.
Oh my gosh, your guitars look sensational. There is so much depth in the quilted maple.
A few more of the rumble drum...Scally

No wonder your guitars are in demand Perry. The blue is spot on. Is it Aniline dye on the wood or tint in the Nitro?...assuming you use Nitro that is.

Looks like everyone's been pulling off some quite varied but unique work of late.
Well done all.
I did a small amount of carving on this neck through, amongst other things.

That is a very stylish web site you have yourself there Stu, did you do it yourself. I notice you use Gotoh 510 series, I rekon they are the best looking set of tuners on the market at the moment, hmmm I also like those 40 to 1 Steinberger gearless although I haven't tried them, need a project to go with them.

Thanks in regards to the website, Jim.
I built it up myself using software provided by my Domain host.
I prefer using the Gotoh 510 tuners because they're well designed, very stable and
the ratio is set how I like 'em.
Sebastiaan, I get my Quilt from the states, although the dollar plays havoc with that at the moment. It's not the best top I've got but it is still going to look the goods.
A bit more of today's progress.
Drill for controls, and then top carve.

i've been in exams until this friday (and worked saturday and sunday/today). now i have `3 months off uni (but will probably be working a bit more than usual). i've been waiting for a bearing for the router bits i use on templates, when that comes i'll have a bit more to show. i've also picked up some transformers for some amps from ebay. plan on making a 10-15w amp with tremolo, a 35-45w amp (not sure about the details) and considering an 80-100w amp for bass. also have a 1x12 + 5" mid driver cab for bass, and a 2x12" cab for guitar to make.
as for instruments, im quite close to having the icemanish one finished, minus the finish. i'll give it to the friend to play for a bit, and when he goes to the uk for a month in feb i'll do the finish (black, thinking i may do nitro because i have a month to do it).
also have a hollowbody guitar in the works, a 6 string bass (fender VI style, but tele shape) and a 5 string bass. may also do a simple bolt on guitar and have an artistic friend paint, need to talk to her a bit more about it.
hopefully i can get it all done before uni starts up again.

Gee there's some realy nice things getting made round here .
Well here's where I'm at, a couple bodies and necks . both tops are Qld maple , the symetrical one has a light Qld maple back and is hollow . The other has an African mahogony back . The necks are Qld maple outer ,one with rosewood strips and silkyoak inner ,and the other has silver ash strips and blackwood inner.
