hi . what are some possible causes for a string ( E1 ) that rattles on the very last fret and is mm away from touching anything betwee the last fret and the bridge?

    Thanks,
    Rob.

Interesting. Is it only the high e string? Is there a slight noise from the frets below it?

I'm wondering if the last fret is loose in the slot on the treble side causing the rattling.

Rob so guessing its acoustic? and 'IF' the rattle is not at all musical, then something is loose somewhere. But there are a lot of possibilities in front of the note towards the bridge or behind the note back to the nut. SS ball ends rattle, machine heads with loose or faulty parts rattle, truss rods rattle, loose bindings braces etc, maybe even fret rattle, well these are just a few possibilities. Sometimes easier to locate a rattle when the strings are off, you know shake and see.
