    Hi there
I have a button accordion repair workshop and would like to copy the design of one and build it.
the accordion was made in the USA and is mostly rock maple.
is there an Australian hard wood that is similar to rock maple
it is light and strong .

    any advice very much appreciated

    thanks.

A few suggestions would be Queensland maple, Poplar it’s hard in Oz as maple has a a lot of sugar and grows in very cold climates and very closed grain which makes it very stable. Most Australian hardwoods are not stable enough for musical instruments. Australian Blackwood and Gidgee are some good woods.

Why not purchase US Rock (or Hard) Maple? It is available in Oz. Nice to work.

there is so little surface wood in an accordion, I suggest you use Rock maple.

As others have advised it's available in Australia
